A Prayer by Virginia Harper

Gracious God, Creator and sustainer of all that is good,

We come in adoration, praise and thankfulness. We thank you for this new day to worship, study, share and have fellowship. We thank you for each day as another day to be of service. We ask for guidance to best use the talents and faculties you have provided.

We ask your presence with those who are sick or in sorrow. Comfort them and strengthen their faith as they heal in body and spirit. Be with the caregivers and those who minister.

We pray for teachers as they guide and teach, and with each student whether young or old. Help us all be open to new ideas and to realize the importance of constantly learning.

As we think of the world leaders we know, there is still need for peace and justice instead of hunger, homelessness and oppression. Give each room in their hearts for concerns of people and not just power.

We remember the people of this congregation and local community as we pray together,

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.
