Faith Journey of Kay Fletcher

Norwalk First United Methodist is my Church. I became a member over 25 years ago. I was raised in the Catholic church along with my six siblings. God was always a part of my life. I always knew I was blessed to have loving parents who taught me how much God loves us. Church was an important part of our lives and we attended weekly.

When I am asked about my family I love to share stories of growing up in a big loving family. But then I also want to share about the wonderful church family I am a part of. After Jim and I were married I started searching for a church to call my own. I knew there was something missing in my life and no person would be able to fill that need. A friend invited me to join her at the Milan Methodist Church. There I found others like me in search of meaning for their lives. Both of our babies were baptized in the Milan church and started attending Sunday School there. But soon I decided to transfer to Norwalk First. Joining Norwalk First when my children were still young was definitely in God’s plan for my life.

For all of these years my family has been blessed by the warm and caring members of this church. Hebrews 12:1 says “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Every pastor who shepherded us, every member who taught bible study, everyone in the choir and praise band who shared their music with us, plus those members who are not with us anymore but who made a difference in my life:  Harlon Jennings, Len Dorrow, Tom Phillips, Marge Harper, and Clair Ross – they all have been that cloud of witnesses who help us in our personal relationship with Jesus.

I found my calling in children’s ministry, teaching children Sunday School for many years. For a long time I wondered if I was making any difference in their young lives. Others who taught our children over the years shared these wise words: “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” I have found that God’s love is the most important thing I need to share with the children of our church. I want to be faithful and plant the seeds. God will take care of the rest.

Being a member of First Church has also blessed me with many friends. As I work together with DeAnn and Sarah planning vacation bible school I learn what true friendship is all about. At 1st Kids, surrounded by so many other adults who selflessly give their time to show God’s love, I know that I am in the right place. I think that every time we walk out in faith God blesses us with the things or people we need in our life. Having friends with the same love for Jesus as I have is truly a joy.

As I continue my journey that God has for me I am thankful for all the loving peoplewho walk this journey with me. It’s my joy to be a member of this church.
